Surface Options for Essentia+ Multihead Weigher

Because every product leaves a different story on the machine

In packaging automation, speed and accuracy often get the first attention.

How many packs per minute?
 What is the accuracy?
 How fast is the machine?

These are important questions. But on the production floor, another quieter question often decides how well a machine performs over time:

How does the product behave on the surface it touches?

A frozen pea, a detergent granule, a masala-coated snack, a copper sulphate crystal, and a piece of candied fruit do not move through a machine in the same way.

Some slide easily.
 Some stick.
 Some scratch.
 Some corrode.
Some carry oil, sugar, seasoning, or moisture.
Some products need a smooth journey. Others need a surface that can survive their nature.

That is why Essentia+ is not built as a one-surface-fits-all machine. It can be configured with different surface finishes and contact-part options depending on the product, the environment, and the application.

Because good weighing is not only about the load cell.

It is also about everything that happens before the product reaches it.

Standard SS304: Reliable, but not universal

SS304 is the standard choice for many food and general packaging applications. It offers good hygiene, strength, and long-term durability.

But like any material, it has its limits.

Two common limitations are:

1. Product sticking
Sticky, coated, sugary, oily, or moisture-sensitive products may cling to standard stainless steel surfaces, affecting feeding consistency.

2. Corrosion risk in aggressive products
Products like salts, fertilizers, copper sulphate, and certain chemicals can be harsh on regular contact surfaces over time.

This does not make SS304 a poor choice. It simply means that the product should decide the surface.

That is where customization begins.

Dimpled Surface Finish

For frozen, sticky, and difficult-flow products

Frozen products often look simple in a brochure. In real production, they behave differently.

Frozen peas, paneer cubes, cheese pieces, meat products, tutti frutti, and candied fruits can carry moisture, sugar, or surface stickiness. They may not flow smoothly on a flat surface, especially when product temperature, humidity, and line speed start changing during production.

A dimpled surface helps by reducing the contact area between the product and the tray or pan.

Less contact means smoother movement.

This is especially useful for:

  • Frozen peas
  • Frozen vegetables
  • Cheese
  • Paneer
  • Meat products
  • Tutti frutti
  • Candied fruits
  • Sticky or moisture-sensitive food products

In these applications, the goal is not just to move the product faster. The goal is to move it consistently.

That consistency improves feeding, stabilizes weighing cycles, and reduces interruptions during production.

SS316 Contact Parts

For corrosive and chemically aggressive products

Some products do not just pass through a machine. They slowly test the machine.

Salt, detergent, fertilizer granules, copper sulphate, chemical granules, and other acidic or corrosive materials can affect the life of standard contact parts and nearby machine surfaces.

For such applications, Essentia+ can be offered with SS316 contact parts.

SS316 provides higher corrosion resistance compared to SS304, making it a better choice when the product itself is chemically aggressive or when the production environment is more demanding.

Suitable applications include:

  • Detergent powder
  • Salt
  • Fertilizer granules
  • Chemicals
  • Copper sulphate
  • Industrial granules
  • Acidic or corrosive materials

This is not just about protecting the machine.

It is about protecting performance.

A machine that resists corrosion better will remain cleaner, more stable, and easier to maintain over a longer period of use.

Teflon-Coated and Electropolished Surfaces

For coated, flavoured, and high-value products

Some products carry their value on the surface.

A sugar coating.
 A masala layer.
 A seasoning blend.
 A flavour coating.
 A delicate texture.

When such products stick to the contact parts, the problem is not only cleaning. The product itself begins to lose its intended finish.

For flavoured snacks, sugar-coated products, masala-coated items, and similar applications, Teflon-coated or electropolished surfaces can help improve product release and reduce sticking.

These finishes are useful for:

  • Sugar-coated products
  • Masala-coated snacks
  • Flavoured products
  • Seasoned food products
  • Sticky or semi-sticky free-flowing materials

Teflon coating helps reduce adhesion.
Electropolishing improves surface smoothness and cleanability.

Both options help extend the life of the base material while supporting smoother product movement through the machine.

For certain products, this can make the difference between a machine that merely runs and a machine that runs cleanly, consistently, and confidently.

At SmartFill, we have learned that small engineering decisions often create the biggest difference on the shop floor.

These are not decorative choices. They are production decisions.

Available Across SmartFill Machines

These surface options are not limited to one configuration.

Depending on the application, SmartFill can provide suitable surface and contact-part customization across our range of weighing systems, including Essentia+ Multihead Weighers and other SmartFill machines.

The objective remains simple:

To match the machine to the product, not force the product to adjust to the machine.

Built Around Your Product

Every product has its own movement, resistance, texture, and behavior.

Understanding that behavior is where better automation begins.

At SmartFill, providing tailor-made weighing solutions is not an add-on. It is part of how we build machines.

Whether you are packaging frozen foods, coated snacks, detergents, salts, fertilizer granules, chemicals, or sticky food products, our team can help you choose the right surface finish and configuration for your application.
